First of all gold was discovered as a shinny, yellow nugget, in it's natural state. Gold was discovered by many different groups in many different places. Everyone who found it was amazed with it's brilliance and beauty. It was also the easiest metal to work with. It's named after yellow, geolu. Gold is beautiful and modern. It is easy to work with it, enjoyable and has a lot of resistance.
The California Rush
The man that truly discovered gold is James W.Marshall. James Wilson Marshall was born on October 8, 1810 and he died on August 10, 1885. His dad was called Phillip Marshall and his mother Sarah Wilson. James was a foreman that worked for Sacramento pioneer in California. On January 24, 1848 Marshall was working near a American river and he found a shinny metal. He took it to John Sutter to see what kind of metal it was. They tested it and they discovered it was Gold. William didn't want to tell no one because people would start looking for more.
